Senior Accountant
$65,000 - $80,000 (depending on experience)
The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for the preparation of accurate and timely financial information including financial statements including all sub-elements. This role is a hybrid position, working from home with office attendance often required at our offices in Red Deer and Calgary The individual in this role supports our Operations Team with efficient processes and work flow, real-time job costing, budget/trend management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and general office-level accounting support for our offices.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist in standardizing accounting and financial processes
- Adhere to the deadlines as outlined by FS Brands Canada Inc
- Assist with the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including: organizational revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, development and monitoring of organizational budgets
- Work under the general direction of the Regional Controller
- Prepare and assemble accurate and timely information for financial statement production and supplemental schedules
- Financial statement reviews and benchmarking support for each location
- Work with other functional areas and divisions to perform assigned tasks and support for each location
- Administer finance policies and procedures including assisting with coordination of standardizing processes and controls to ensure conformity with GAAP and that SOX regulations are implemented and maintained
- Performance analysis of operations that drive growth, strategy and profitability initiatives
- Ensure financial plans and forecasts are developed and variances are analyzed against plans
- Perform cash and credit card reconciliations and assist with monitoring cash management of consolidated company accounts
- Process inter-company transactions
- Prepare various internal reports for use by management, operations, and corporate team members
- Provide backup support for the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as required. i.e. vacation
- Attend and participate in team meetings, department meetings and trainings
- Participate and attend GS&R (Goal Setting & Review) meetings
Competency – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, One Drive, Share Point)
- Knowledge of accounting fundamentals
- Knowledge of financial statements
- Knowledge of finance related systems
- Knowledge of ADP or similar payroll agent
- Excellent Communication skills (written and oral)
- Math skills
- Analytical and Problem-Solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
- Ability to learn and operate our primary finance related system; Sage Intacct
- Ability to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
- Proficiency in Excel with the ability to create reports
- Ability to create financial documents and spreadsheets
- Ability to follow processes and procedures pertaining to the department and the company
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to pass and maintain a satisfactory background check
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Required Education and Experience
- 5 years+ experience in an Accounting role with hands-on financial accounting experience
- Experience with GAAP and SOX
- Experience with GL, AP/AR, payroll, banking, and financial statement preparation
Preferred Education and Experience
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Experience with percentage completion accounting
Physical Requirement
- Must be able to stay in a stationary position up to 100% of the time
- Operate a computer and other office equipment
- Must be able to observe and perceive information on a computer and documents
- Must be able to communicate and converse with customers over the phone
- Occasionally will lift up to 10lbs
- Ability to safely operate a company vehicle
